CES 2007 : Re-Introduction of the Gaming Projector
At the 2007 Consumer Electronics Show there was a resurgence of the Projector that has a built-in gaming console. This concept of projector has been developed in the past by a number of companies but never really took off.The projector combination concept was released a couple of years ago as a DVD / projector unit which allowed users to essentially plug-and-play. You could open the box and, without having to meddle with wires of any type you could watch your favorite movie 5 minutes after arriving from the electronics store.
This type of projector combo is making a comeback by combining not only the DVD player but also a gaming console. The only question is, which large gaming companies are going to be the first to adapt this innovative idea?
Gamers have traditionally always wanted ‘bigger and badder’ video game systems and, the larger the screen and the louder the volume the better. For a generic company to release a new game console altogether would be difficult, however if a current projector manufacturer teamed up with Nintendo or Microsoft, it could create a well selling product.
The new concept might even have high quality built in speakers, but this is definitely one aspect where consumers like to add a little power. There is no need to buy an extra television or projector so that you can play your games without disturbing the “family’ TV.
The concept perhaps never took off when it was simply a DVD / Projector combination perhaps because people don’t replace their DVD players too often. The Gaming world is different however, with gamers buying a new console to keep up with the latest games and technology. The consoles that offer the best features and most integration seem to be running the show as the PlayStation 3 tries to incorporate Social Networking with gaming and movie viewing.
Currently, hooking up the projector to different media continues to be trouble for some people as they deal with compatibility issues and set up issues. Integrating more media to the projector will definitely make them more accessible to new users. The other important thing to ask is projector placement for set up. You need to be able to access the console to use the DVD/disk drive.
These are all questions that can be answered as soon as we get news from the up and coming players in the market. Stay tuned for more exciting information on this new category of projector!
