Projectors And Art

People are starting to realize that there is more than one way to skin a cat, and translating this into something that is a little more appealing reveals the idea that projectors are being used for more than just movies. A friend of mine told me recently that when he was going to design the interior of his home, he was going to have ever changing art.

The first thing that came to my mind is the quick witted Billionaire thief from the Thomas Crown Affair. How can you possibly afford to keep changing up the art in your home?

He told me that he was going to incorporate the use of a couple of projectors hooked up to his laptop to keep his place looking fresh and current. The prices of projector are after all coming down, and they probably will soon be comparable to the price of a really nice piece of art.

You can obviously incorporate non-projected art with your projected images, it doesn’t have to be a house dominated by projected images. Besides, if you want to live with any kind of ambient light, your projector’s image will definitely appear lighter than expected.

The one major setback in my mind when it comes to living everyday with projected images is the issue of ambient light. Of course, when you go to a club, and you see a that they have a projector hooked up delivering psychedelic images for you to revel in while listening to music it seems like a good idea.

Maybe the best use would come at night, when you are having company over to share good conversation. The appropriate image for that particular night can set the right mood, or a revolving orchestra of images or video would make for an interesting background.

Setting up the projectors would be the most difficult part, because it would determine how much you care about people walking between the lens and projecting area therefore disturbing the flow. It would make it easier if you had high ceilings, much like a nightclub, allowing for you to mount your projector higher up and out of the way.

There are so many more considerations when you want to take the road less traveled. Another big consideration is the wiring and cables issue, and how to avoid tripping over wires. The easiest choice would be to jump on the wireless revolution. There are still very few projectors that offer wireless transmission. Fortunately there are new technologies like Bluetooth that are a cheaper alternative wireless option that hopefully more companies will incorporate.
